MEET ALEXANDRA SHEPHERD!

Hometown: Miami, FL

What I do at exhale: Mind Body Manager, Nutrition Coach, Core Fusion and Yoga Teacher

My background: After graduating from Miami’s renowned New World School of the Arts High School, I headed to Washington, DC to pursue a BA in Theater and Dance at The George Washington University. While attending GW, I discovered the art of yoga, sparking a passion for life long mind-body wellness. I also hold a Masters Degree in Public Health from Barry University.

My certifications: Certified Vinyasa Flow and Kundalini yoga teacher, Certified Health & Nutrition Coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, Core Fusion Teacher Training

Favorite neighborhood spot: Anywhere in Wynwood. I love Panther Coffee, Wood Tavern, Gramps or just skateboarding around and taking in the street art.

My favorite local restaurant is Oolite on Miami Beach because they have an entirely gluten free menu with locally sourced fish and grass-fed proteins.

What’s in my gym bag: Iphone and charger, hair ties, vitamins, exhale grip socks, water and Traumeel

What song do I have on repeat: It changes weekly but right now it’s “Seasons (Waiting On You)” by Future Islands and “Get Hurt” by The Gaslight Anthem.

What’s in my refrigerator right now: A LOT of green vegetables and some root vegetables, sheep yogurt, organic, pasture raised proteins like eggs, lamb, beef, chicken and MSC seafood, hemp protein, chia seeds, raspberries and blueberries, coconut, hemp, and cashew milk, cold-pressed vegetable juice, and ghee.

My typical day including meals: I always wake up and drink water and/or bone broth. Bone broth is a traditional, mineral rich food made from boiling the bones of beef, bison, lamb poultry or fish. It’s known to boost the immune system and improve digestion. I like to start my day with a Core Fusion class then have breakfast (either a smoothie or kale with a protein such as paleo-friendly bacon or turkey sausage), then I do my Mind Body Manager managerial duties, then eat lunch. My lunch is typically a salad with protein like chicken or turkey or a collard green wrap with turkey or tuna salad. I adhere to a strict paleo style diet which has helped improved symptoms of an autoimmune disorder. After lunch, I continue my MBM duties and often meet with a nutrition coaching client then I teach Core Fusion classes. Then it’s home to cook dinner with my boyfriend (more protein and vegetables) and sometimes reward myself with my favorite dessert, a Hail Merry Miracle Tart and a good book, some TV or a movie.

When I’m not teaching, I take class with: all of our teachers but I love taking yoga with Tamara and Angela. Their music is always great and I feel stretched out and happy afterwards. Plus Angela’s hands on adjustments are amazing!

When I’m not at exhale: I’m skateboarding in Wynwood, hanging with friends, checking out a new restaurant with my boyfriend or planning my next travel destination.

Fun Fact about myself: Never letting go of my excitement for the performing arts, shortly after earning my MPH, I moved to Chicago after being cast in a theater production there. I have been in numerous stage productions, films, and commercials.

I’ll admit it, my quirk is: I put on pajamas as soon as I get home. If I’m at home, I’m in pajamas.

At my core, I am: a friend, daughter, sister, lover, yellow cosmic star, Taurus, and traveler.
