As the seasons change, so do our bodies. When we don’t shift successfully with our changing environment, we become out of sync with the seasons. This resulting disharmony can leave us all out of whack — cue a seasonal cold or flu, , digestive and sleep problems, and mood changes leaving us feeling sad, angry, or just generally out-of-sorts.

Leading a healthy lifestyle can help us shift seamlessly from one season to the next. Here are four simple wellbeing practices to aid your body in the transition from fall to winter:

  1. Eat clean: a good diet with a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, healthy fats, and protein can go a long way in fueling and healing the body. Fall and winter seasons are the ideal time to add warming foods like soup and lightly steamed vegetables to your diet.
  2. Exercise: it sounds simple, but especially in the fall and pre-holiday season, it’s easy to get “too busy” and forget to make exercise a part of your day. Get to an exhale class, or simply walk around the block! Even if you get moving for just a few extra minutes a day, your body will thank you.
  3. Mindfulness: take just a few minutes a day to train your brain to stay calm, focused, and centered – even during the busiest of seasons.
  4. Acupuncture healing: Book a tune-up with an acupuncturist. You’ll identify where your imbalances are, and get a customized therapy to help your body re-balance and harmonize. When your body is in balance, it is better equipped to handle seasonal transitions with (more) ease. As a result, you are more resistant to cold, flu, and other common seasonal issues.
