The LA marathon is approaching, and those who are training for the marathon are familiar with the aches and pains associated with long runs. While endurance sports athletes, such as marathon runners, are quite commendable for their mental ability to overcome pain; pain is the body’s signal that it is in distress and in need of help.
Acupuncture is an excellent way to address pain as it also helps heal and repair injured tissue, the underlying trigger of pain. Frequent treatments throughout the training are beneficial in speeding up recovery time from fatigue and the stress that a long run places on the body. The treatments strengthen the body to prevent related injuries.
Acupuncture promotes increased blood circulation supplying the muscle fibers with nutrients and oxygen to better facilitate restoration, healing and recovery. This improves muscle fiber mobility and helps prevent muscle strains and sprains such as in the back, hips, and legs. Increased blood flow also helps lubricate and heal the joints, tendons and ligaments.
An acupuncture treatment one or two days following the marathon significantly reduces soreness. Acupuncture helps the body to relax, and relieves fatigue. It facilitates recovery and assists the body to restore its healthful balance.
