Jessica was first introduced to yoga during the summer of 1997 through Jon Kabat-Zinn’s mindfulness based stress reduction program at Harvard Medical School. This first taste of practiced awareness, taught through both yoga and Buddhist teaching, later inspired her to attend OM Yoga Center’s teacher training. Yoga had become the clearest path for continued exploration of her two undergraduate passions, psychology and dance. Since that time she has had the opportunity to continue her studies with many wonderful teachers, including Cyndi Lee, Rodney Yee, Shiva Rea, Larry Rosenberg, and her father, Doug Phillips. Most recently she has had the pleasure of deepening her practice with Dana Strong and Susan “Lippy” Orem, who continue to inspire.
Classes are vinyasa based with attention given to the detail of form and alignment, breath, and the entirety of one’s experience. While maintaining deference to the great yogis, practice will inevitably vary greatly depending upon where focus is placed. Jessica finds the joy of teaching in the constantly changing dialogue that can be shared between student and teacher, teacher and student. She feels blessed to continue to explore and share in this still relevant ancient practice.
